Ntfs o fat 32

We have probably all wondered at some point what the difference between NTFS and FAT32 is and we have never been completely clear about it. We know that USB drives normally come in FAT32 format and that NTFS is used for our Windows operating system. But why is this the case and not the other way around? When is it in our interest to use each of them? Well, we will see all that here, in this article.
NTFS (New Technology File System) is the most recent file system available from Microsoft for use in its Windows operating system. It was introduced in 1993 with the Windows NT operating system, and later it would be implemented in the operating systems of home computers with Windows 2000 and to a greater extent in Windows XP, system that standardized the use of this system. NTFS has undergone some updates in terms of space and file addressing capacity, and is currently used by all Windows-based operating systems.
If we want to compare both file systems, the first thing to know is the file and partition capacities we are talking about in each case. This will be the main difference between both file systems.

Before we begin, we should clarify what a file system is. Basically, it consists of providing a way to organize and arrange files within a storage device, as well as what kind of information can be associated with those files, such as permissions, file types and other attributes. NTFS is mostly used by hard drives, SSDs, while FAT, FAT32 and exFAT are used on USB sticks and SD cards.
NTFS (New Technology File System) is the file system that Windows uses by default, and the one used for hard disks and SSD drives. Windows can only be installed on a drive with this system, so surely if you are reading this from Windows your computer is using this file system. There are several reasons why this file system is used for computers.
On Mac operating systems NTFS can be read, but not written. If you use both platforms, NTFS is not the best choice. Sony consoles can’t write either, although they can read in the case of PS3 and PS4. Xbox 360 could not even read it, but Xbox One could.

Surely when you have gone to format a hard disk or USB you have seen that you have different file systems to choose from. The options are many, from FAT32 to NTFS to exFAT and many others, but how do you know which one is the most suitable for the drive you are formatting or the use you want to give it?
Today we are going to explain which are the most common file systems and what are the characteristics of each of them. This way you will have all the necessary data to be able to choose which one to format your storage drive with.
Your external hard drive, your computer’s internal hard drive, a USB or an SD card. All of them are storage units, which means that when you format them you are creating the infrastructure in which the data that you want to put later will be stored.
This is where the file system comes into play, a component of the operating system that manages the memory of each drive. They are in charge of assigning the files the space they need, ordering them, allowing access to them and managing the free space of the storage units.
